Arrived Galapagos

We arrived yesterday just before dark after a day of reasonable speed so no motoring until we started entering the harbour. Position 00 53 S and 89 36 W. Had a chat to some people we know yesterday evening, and decided that our best bet would be to continue to Isla Isabella which is much less developed, and where we can still see the wildlife that is the reason we came. So this afternoon will leave for an overnight trip there. Probably will only be able to stay for 72 hrs, but should be able to do quite a bit in that time. This is a pretty but very touristy little town, full of souvenir shops and places advertising tours.

The harbour is full of sea lions, and they are quite a problem for boats with low swimming platforms at the back. Friends on one catamaran have had to put barbed wire all over the back of their boat. Their first night the sea lions climbed up and a group of them had a party in the cockpit - on the cushions. Noise, mess, and smell. Great fun to watch them on the rocks and around the jetty, but you wouldn't want them on your own property! The small fishing boats have boards with large nails pointing up that they put in position when leaving their boats.
