Had a great farewell to the Galapagos at breakfast time yesterday. A bump on the hull sent us to the cockpit to see a couple of sea lions hunting for their breakfast - a reddish patch on the back of one looked suspiciously like our anti-fouling paint. The reason for the close encounter was that a huge school of little fish were all around the boat - we were in the middle of a bowl of fish soup. Soon the penguins arrived too. Whereas the sea lions move slowly, gracefully and purposefully, the penguins are more like energetic puppies, darting here and there. Actually they too have their method, they round up a small group of fish just like a sheep dog, then dart in to catch their prey. Boobies were doing their vertical dives too, they must get up quite a speed as they fold their wings and hit the water. It all added up to an unforgettable bowl of cornflakes.
