Yesterday afternoon we were two thirds of the way and have been averaging 7 kts for the last 24 hrs so are making good progress - at this rate we should arrive next weekend. Position at 18.00 GMT 20th April is 09 16 S and 124 42 W
The sea is more confused than we had hoped - swell coming from two directions, probably caused by the various squalls passing through the area. We have been 'poled out' with the genoa on one side and the main on the other with wind behind since yesterday evening, two of the securing lines parted company during the night - they were old and we have replacements. Continuous sailing like this causes a lot of wear and tear(to equipment I mean, but no doubt to us too!)
With stocks of fresh produce getting low I wasn't happy this morning when our newly squeezed orange juice went flying - only let it go for a moment. What a mess.
Have had an email from the boat that has arrived in Fatu Hiva, and it sounds lovely. Only one tiny store, nothing else, and fruit available by barter.
